I have been studying visual art for many years, beginning in childhood and continuing into the present.
From an early age, colour, form, and creative expression have consistently fascinated me and remain central to my artistic journey today. Over the years, I have pursued formal studies in Fine Arts through several local educational institutions. At the Winnipeg Art Gallery, I completed the Studio Art Program, with a focus on advanced-level drawing and painting. I further developed my artistic foundation at the University of Manitoba, where I completed first-year studies in Art History, drawing, painting, collage, and related disciplines. In addition to visual arts, I have also studied Wine Studies, completing WSET Levels 1 and 2 and part of Level 3. This interdisciplinary background has broadened my understanding of culture, history, and sensory experience, which continues to inform my creative perspective. |
My education and lifelong engagement with art reflect a deep commitment to learning, observation, and creative growth. Art remains both a personal passion and an evolving practice through which I explore colour, form, and meaning.
Some of my favourite painters from the past include William Turner, whose abstract landscapes and turbulent seascapes have captured my interest. I enjoy Henri Matisse’s slightly distorted perspectives in his still life's, as well as Pablo Picasso’s use of colour and his unique approach to representing the human form. I am particularly fascinated by Leonardo da Vinci’s many talents; his work often incorporates strong architectural elements. I also admire Vincent Van Gogh’s expressive use of colour and distinctive brushstrokes. In addition to painting, I am drawn to sculpture, especially works from the Greek and Roman eras, which I would love to analyze and draw. |

My artistic practice includes painting in acrylics and oils, drawing with pencil and charcoal, and conducting ink studies.
I am drawn to both traditional and observational subjects such as still life objects, landscapes, antiques, animals, and water-inspired themes. Alongside these visual studies, my work also engages with social realities, particularly themes of poverty and the impact of the pandemic, exploring how these experiences shape emotion, memory, and daily life. My style balances conservative structure with expressive interpretation. I work within a largely monochromatic and expressionistic approach, allowing mood and atmosphere to guide each piece. At times, I use bright, bold, and lively colours to convey energy, emotion, and intensity. In contrast, I also favour subdued and restrained palettes to create a sense of calm, stillness, and reflection. This shift between vibrant and muted colour allows me to respond intuitively to the subject and its emotional weight. Black-and-white works play an important role in my practice, especially in charcoal, pencil, and ink. These pieces often evoke a sense of nostalgia and timelessness, referencing antique aesthetics and quiet moments from the past. Through texture, contrast, and expressive mark-making, I aim to create works that feel both grounded and emotionally resonant. |
Overall, my work is an exploration of observation, mood, and human experience. Whether depicting objects, environments, or social themes, I strive to create art that invites reflection, preserves memory, and captures the subtle emotions found in everyday life. |
